Mom Pleads Guilty to Hosting Sex Parties

GOLDEN, Colo. - A woman who told police she wanted to be a "cool mom" pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges Monday for having sex with high school boys at parties where authorities said she supplied drugs and alcohol.
Silvia Johnson, 40, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault and nine felony counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped two counts of distribution of methamphetamine.
"She described herself as a `cool mom,'" Detective R.J. Vander Veen wrote in the affidavit. He said Johnson told investigators "she was never popular with classmates in high school and now began `feeling like one of the group.'"
Prosecutors did not recommend a sentence, but each sexual assault count carries up to two years in prison, and each count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor carries up to six years, district attorney's spokeswoman Pam Russell said.
Johnson, who is free on bail, held parties for the boys almost weekly between October 2003 and October 2004, authorities said. She was accused of providing drugs and alcohol to eight boys and having sex with five of them.
Police said the investigation began after one of the boys told his mother about the encounters, and she reported it to authorities.

I'll probably be struck with a bolt of lightning for saying this, but ... eventually this society is going to have to admit that not all situations like this are gender-neutral.
I remember being horrified when my (male) high school guidance counselor slipped his hand under my skirt, back when I was 15. Seriously horrified. I felt creeped-out and betrayed.
But about six of my (male) good friends had similar encounters with (older female) guidance counselors, teachers, neighbors, relatives, etc. when they were in their early teens, and not only weren't they traumatized, they were delighted ... and brag about the encounters to this day ... irrespective of the "hottness" of the perp.
Sigh ...

The politically correct egalitarian side of me wants to just *weep* for that poor, poor, oppressed traumatized boy ... but the realist side of me wants to laugh my ass off at the notion that the young man was suffering very much.

I have to agree with Mary that there is definately a double-standard at work. If the sexes were reversed or if they were both men or both women, few people would question hanging the older person out to dry. But because 'boys-will-be-boys' this particular situation doesn't seem so awful to some of us.
Speaking for myself, I would have been overjoyed at 15 if some older dude had paid me some attention and tried to ply me with drugs and alcohol...but not everyone matures at the same rate. (And the hypothetical guy would certainly have been risking a very public crucifixion by approaching me.) Personally I think cases like these are so situation-specific...it doesn't seem quite fair that an 18-year-old who has consentual sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend can legally be put in the same category of sex-offender as an old pervert who serially molests pre-teen children against their will. But the line has to be drawn somewhere. Fortunately for me I have always been attracted to people who are older than I am.
